Short communication: Effects of different blood buffers administered in electrolyte solution to grain-fed veal calves experiencing diarrhea

چکیده
Calf diarrhea can commonly lead to dehydration and metabolic acidosis due the loss of fluid electrolytes. The objective this randomized clinical trial was examine differences between treating male dairy calves experiencing with either a basic bicarbonate electrolyte powder (BBP) composed sodium (50.7 mmol/L); mixed buffer (MBP) including (33.8 mmol/L), citrate (8.4 acetate (6.3 potassium (1.9 or liquid (HAL) (50.1 mmol/L). All 3 solutions were standardized provide 50 mmol/L blood buffers similarly strong ion difference (74.4, 74.9, 82.6 mEq/L for BBP, MBP, HAL, respectively). Holstein (n = 80) sourced from auction barns local farms delivered in 1 batch research facility. Calves housed individual pens fed 24% crude protein 17% fat calf milk replacer (CMR) twice daily. Starter grain water offered ad libitum. randomly enrolled treatments when 2 consecutive days fecal score (runny, spreads easily) d (liquid devoid solid material). blocked by different enrollment criteria. respective solution administered via esophageal tube h after feeding CMR until returned 0 (normal consistency) (semiformed pasty). Blood gas measurements taken at 1, 8, 24 post initial feeding, weight measured 2, 7, 14, 28 postenrollment. Mixed repeated measure linear regression models built assess effect that had on body weight. A total 45 16, 15 assigned BBP groups, respectively. As compared MBP increased CO2 8 h, base excess anion gap h. HAL groups noted more severe eye recession group. Average daily gain did not differ any time point. Although challenge present, which should be considered limitation study, improved acid-base status whereas performed MBP.

Short communication The effect of four ®brous feed supplementations on different welfare traits in veal calves
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the optimum starch-®bre content of manufactured dry feed for veal calves. In three identical barns (B1, B2, B3), 126 calves were assigned to seven groups fed the same milk replacer. In each barn there was a control group (C1, C2, and C3), fed only the all-liquid diet, and one (or two in B3) group(s) receiving additional pellets (P1, P2, P3, and P4). ...

Physiological behaviour of a natural iron chelate: the Ca chlorophyllinate fed to veal calves.
I N veal production, the color of the fresh meat is an important factor affecting its quality. The consumer considers that the light pink color of the carcass, which is associated with the feeding of milk, will reflect a specific taste. The paleness of the muscle tissue is actually developed by an exclusive milk feeding and results from a state of anemia due to the low iron content of the milk ...
متن کاملShort communication Fat digestion and faecal bile acid excretion in veal calves fed milk replacers containing either coconut fat or tallow
Thirty eight veal calves aged 7 weeks were fed milk replacers containing either coconut fat or tallow for a period of 15 weeks. Body weight gain was 114.2 10.3 and 115.7 22.5 kg (mean SD, n = 19, P > 0.05) for the calves fed the diets with either coconut fat or tallow, respectively. Faeces were collected during the last week of the trial. Apparent digestibility of crude fat was 93.3 4.9 and 91....
